Bondstrand™ Retrofit Applications

We offer the solution to your corrosion problems aboard ships and offshore units. Bondstrand™ Glass fiber Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) pipe systems have a number of significant advantages when compared to steel or other metallic piping.

Bondstrand pipe systems are extremely resistant to corrosion from salt water and to a wide range of chemicals. Additionally, there is almost no scaling and low pressure loss. Bondstrand Glassfiber (GRE) pipe systems are easy to install, lightweight and can be designed to operate at temperatures up to 121°C.

We provide specialist marine installation services to suit marine environments, supported by extensive in-house design and fabrication capabilities. Wenco can provide GRE installation services to a wide range of systems including:

  • Ballast water treatment
  • Sea water cooling
  • Fire fighting
  • Condensate lines
  • Inert gas effluent
  • Potable water
  • Scrubber units
  • Crude oil washing

Low weight and/or extended life corrosion resistance, we provide bespoke cost-effective design & build piping & structural composite solutions for marine, naval, offshore & subsea applications.

Class Approved

Major certifying bodies such as Lloyd’s Register, Bureau Veritas, Det Norske Veritas GL, American Bureau of Shipping, RINA, RMRS, etc. have adopted and implemented the IMO Guidelines in their respective Rules and Regulations for the Classification of Ships. Bondstrand pipe series that are used in the marine/offshore industry are Type Approved by all major certifying bodies.

Bondstrand piping systems include easy to install standard filament wound fittings. When standard fittings can not be used, laminated fittings and spools can be tailor-made to fit almost any system. Replacement can take place at sea during the voyage, at anchorage, during regular loading and discharge operations or during dry dock periods.

Scrubber Installations

The maritime industry is facing tough new challenges of adopting new technologies and operational practices to comply with international, national and local regulations, introduced in order to reduce exhaust emissions from ships. As of January 2015, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) legislation stated that all ships operating inside of designated emission control areas are to use fuel with a low sulfur content, or to employ technology to reduce sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions.

One technology option is to install an exhaust gas cleaning (EGC) after-treatment system, also known as scrubbers. The exhaust gas scrubber system cleans the exhaust gas to reduce SOx emissions to the appropriate legal limit.

This method ensures that the vessels’ exhaust gas emissions are sufficiently cleaned to within the new legal limit of SOx emissions (which is now just 0.10%) prior to release into the atmosphere.

The highly corrosive nature of waste material produced during the scrubbing process leaves only two viable options for essential associated pipework – difficult to source and expensive special grade stainless steel or Glass Reinforced Epoxy (GRE).

Bondstrand GRE piping systems are the solution. Our cost effective, lightweight and corrosion resistant Bondstrand GRE piping systems are suitable for both the acidic waste water produced through the exhaust gas scrubbing process, as well as the seawater supply to the scrubber.
